WhatsApp banned more than 3 million accounts between June 16 and July 31, know why?
WhatsApp has released its second ‘User Safety Monthly Report’. In this, the company has said that it has blocked more than 30 lakh accounts in 46 days between June 16 and July 31. The company has said that these accounts have been banned to prevent online abuse and to keep users safe.
The accounts that have been banned include those accounts on which action has been taken under the company’s own policy and user reports. WhatsApp said that its main focus was to prevent accounts from sending automated block spam.
In addition to behavioral signals, the company used unencrypted information such as user reports, profile photos, group photos, and descriptions for this. Along with this, the company also took the help of AI tools and other resources to stop the abuse on the platform.
WhatsApp said that more than 95 percent of the bans were due to unauthorized use of automated or bulk messaging. The company identifies Indian accounts through the +91 phone number.
The company said that they received a total of 594 complaints during this period. These bans were related to appeal, product support, account support, and safety support. Of these, corrective action was taken in 74 cases (73 were ban appeals).
WhatsApp has said in a public statement that we are focusing especially on prevention. Because we believe that it is better to prevent the wrong activity earlier than to detect it after the harm is done.
