WhatsApp again brought the DISPUTED PRIVACY POLICY, except this date must be done
WhatsApp is preparing to re-implement its disputed privacy policy. The company will once again try to explain its new policy to Indian users through a small banner in the app and users will have to accept the new policy by May 15. Let it be known that WhatsApp had faced a lot of criticism in January this year regarding its new privacy policy.
The Facebook-owned app was set to implement its new privacy policy in February and began informing users about the new policy in January through in-app notifications. However, this new update has been criticized by users for data privacy concerns. Even the Indian government had asked WhatsApp to withdraw the new update.
However, despite all the criticism, WhatsApp is not withdrawing its updated Terms and Services (ToS), but the company will release a banner in the app itself. This will inform the users about the new policy. It will also explain how the company works. WhatsApp has reiterated its old claim via a blog, stating that the new policy does not increase the company’s ability to access user data.
From Friday, the messaging app will start alerting users about their policy updates. According to WhatsApp, the new policy will be implemented from May 15. The blog also makes it clear that Facebook will not be able to use interactions with businesses for targeted advertising. This will only happen when these businesses select the option to use Facebook’s ad network.
The notable change in the new policy is that it does not have a section that gives users the choice to share data with Facebook. Due to the absence of this section, WhatsApp users will not have the option of not sharing information with Facebook since the new policy came into force. However, WhatsApp has made it clear that the new update will not change the privacy of people’s personal chats. The new update is only part of the ‘Optional Business Feature’.
According to WhatsApp, the new update will give WhatsApp a new way to chat or shop with a business and will be completely optional. Some shopping features will include Facebook to manage your inventory between business apps. At the same time, the blog further states that the new update is part of the effort to earn money through the app so that WhatsApp remains free for the people.
