Messenger and Instagram chat not safe till 2023? The company said this big thing
Like WhatsApp in Facebook Messenger and Instagram, end-to-end encryption will have to wait a long time. The company has said that end-to-end encryption will not be available before 2023.
End-to-end encryption is given in WhatsApp chats which makes it secure. The WhatsApp app comes under Meta. Services like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp come under Meta.
Facebook’s parent company Meta has said that end-to-end encryption will not be provided in Facebook Messenger chats and Instagram before 2023.
Significantly, in 2019, Facebook (now Meta) announced that end-to-end encryption will be provided in messaging on all platforms. But now it is being delayed and users will have to wait till 2023 for chat encryption.
Meta’s Global Safety Chief has said that end-to-end encryption in Facebook Messenger and Instagram chats will not be available before 2023. According to the company, this time is being taken so that end-to-end encryption can be rolled out globally in Messenger and Instagram chats simultaneously.
In April this year, Facebook told The Telegraph that the company would provide end-to-end encryption for Facebook and Instagram in 2022. But now this doesn’t seem to be happening.
End-to-end encryption is an encryption standard under which the communications made are secure. Apart from the sender and receiver, no third person can read the message.
Messenger still has end-to-end encryption, but…
There is an option of Secret Conversation in Facebook Messenger. If you talk to someone under this option, then those chats are end-to-end encrypted.
There are many more features inside Secret Conversations. If you want, you can also set a timer for the message to disappear by itself. Although this secret conversation is optional.
What Meta has just said means that in 2023, end-to-end encryption will come in Messenger’s normal messages. Along with Messenger, the feature of end-to-end encryption will also be given in Instagram.
Recently WhatsApp has also announced end-to-end encryption for its backup. This means that now the backups of chats will also be secure. Earlier, chats backup did not have end-to-end encryption, due to which chats from celebs to high profile people have been leaked.
