Developed by a health startup, this mobile application is called CarePlix Vital, which works to monitor a user’s blood oxygen level, pulse, and respiration rates. To use this mobile app you need to put your finger on the rear camera and flashlight of the smartphone. In a few seconds, oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse, and respiratory levels appear on the display.

“People need devices like pulse oximeters or smartwatches to get information like oxygen saturation and pulse rate,” said Subrabhat Paul, co-founder of CareNow Healthcare. Talking about internal technology in this device, photoplethysmography or PPG is used.
How does CarePlix App work as Oximeter in a Smartphone?
To get information on it, you need to put your finger on the back camera and flashlight and scan for about seconds. At that time the difference in light is calculated and based on the difference that we made the PPG graph. The graph provides information on oxygen saturation and pulse rate.

The clinical trial of the device was conducted in 2021 at the Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital in Kolkata on 1,200 people. Paul said that these tests were done with the doctors of the hospital and it was done especially in OPD. During the trial, it was found that CAREPLIX had given VITAL a correct percent of heart rate and a percent of oxygen saturation.
