Careful! This app resembling Google Chrome can make your bank account empty
There has been quite a few Android malware that has infected users’ devices. Now a new malware has been discovered. This new Android malware looks like the Google Chrome app. According to the report, it has infected thousands of devices so far.
It has been reported by cybersecurity firm Pradeo. The researcher has described this malware as part of the Smishing Trojan category. According to the researcher, the Fake Google Chrome App is part of a mobile attack campaign that steals credit card details by installing the Fake app on your device. This malware sends thousands of phishing SMS to other users using Victim’s phone.
According to the security researcher, the speed with which this malware is spreading, it has infected thousands of devices. Target gets an SMS to install it. In this SMS, it is said to provide a custom fee to release the package delivery.
For this, users are asked to update the Chrome App. Malware installs in the user’s device instead of the Chrome app. After this, they ask the custom to pay one or two dollars. It is said to use a credit card to pay. In this way, Cyber Criminals hack credit card details. They can use it for fraudulent banking.
The matter does not end here, once the fake Chrome app is installed, it sends 2000 SMS every week to Victim’s phone. It messages random phone numbers for two to three hours every day. According to the researcher, the logo of the original chrome icon has been given in it.
To avoid this, never tell your credit card details to any unknown sender or person. Apart from this, never install a third-party app on the phone. If you want to update an app, do it from the official App Store of the phone.
