Taiwanese cheapest company MediaTek has outpaced American cheapest maker Qualcomm. It is for the first time that MediaTek has become the world’s largest smartphone processor company.
Significantly, the year 2020 has been better for Taiwanese company MediaTek. According to the CounterPoint report, China and India have been the biggest contributors to the success of MediaTek. Since mid-range smartphones are sold in India, this company focuses more on mid-range and budget smartphones.

MediaTek’s market share in smartphone cheapest stood at 31% in the third quarter of 2020, while Qualcomm is at number two. American smartphone cheap maker Qualcomm has a market share of 29%.
HiSilicon is at number three in this list, while South Korean company Samsung is at number four. Number five is the American company Apple.
Talking about 5G cheapest, Qualcomm still has the most market share here. In the third quarter of 2020, US company Qualcomm is ranked number-1 in the 5G mobile cheapset with 39% market share.

Market share has occurred for three reasons. Mid-range smartphones have a strong performance in emerging markets. Apart from this, leading companies are now using MediaTek processors.
According to the report, MediaTek has also benefited from the ban of Huawei in America. Upstream MediaTek cheapest are also being given in Xiaomi’s smartphones, due to which the company has performed well this time.
The research director of CounterPoint has said that American cheapest maker Qualcomm has also benefited from the problem related to the supply of HiSilicon. However, Qualcomm has also got tough competition from MediaTek.
It is also expected that in the coming year i.e. 2021, there will be tough competition in the market share of MediaTek and Qualcomm. Because on the one hand Qualcomm is focusing on 5G cheapest, on the other hand MediaTek has strengthened its grip in the mid-range segment.
