Apple Canada on Tuesday announced imminent support for the Apple Watch family setup, a new feature that enables customers to wear and buy without their own iPhones.
Partner carrier Bell Dynamics will power customers on Monday, December 14.
Apple Watch Series 6 and unveiled in September, the Apple Watch Family setup lets users activate a compatible watch model via a family member’s iPhone. This feature benefits both children and older users who want to connect with family, monitor their health, monitor activity levels, navigate maps, communicate with Siri, set alarms, And many more. However, Apple does not have a smartphone.

With the family setup, owners of the Apple Watch can take advantage of the most essential SOS from Cellular as well, but parents can keep an eye on children through Find My App. Parents have increased control over provisioned clocks and can restrict access to certain facilities by setting school and downtime modes.

Those who use the family set up to activate the Apple Watch will be provided with their own Apple ID and phone number through a separate cellular plan.

Family setup requires Apple Watch Series 4 or later and iPhone 6 or later.
Bell Mobility plans to offer a December 14 family setup with devices powered by iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2. Release candidates for both operating systems were released today before a possible release on Thursday.
