Personal data will be more secure, WhatsApp brings end-to-end encryption for backup data

We all know WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption policy to protect user’s personal information. In the case of chatting, this facility frees us from the hassle of illegally transferring information. But the situation changes when it comes to backing up data on cloud platforms. Because then we do not see the presence of the aforementioned feature. This leaves some gaps in the security of the backup data stored in Google Drive or iCloud. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of WhatsApp, this weakness can be overcome very soon.

WhatsApp brings end-to-end encryption for iOS data backup

In fact, WhatsApp authorities continue to try to add end-to-end encryption features to their applications to provide maximum protection to backed up data. They are already testing the feature in the new beta version of Android. However, this feature may be available to iOS users much earlier.

In fact, WABetainfo, a trusted source of all news related to Whatsapp, shared a screenshot in their recent tweet. There’s an alternative to enabling end-to-end encrypted backup features, which will add extra security to the user’s personal information stored on iCloud. As a result, Apple users will be able to enjoy the benefits of the feature very quickly.

So the advent of Whatsapp’s end-to-end encryption feature to secure the backed-up data is now a matter of time. Many claims that Whatsapp authorities have chosen the best time to attach the feature. Because Apple has recently expressed its concern to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). In this case, they are interested in implementing the above plan with the help of NeuralHash technology. By scanning all the images uploaded to iCloud in this way, the company wants to create a barrier to the spread of child sexual abuse in countries like the United States.

While the intentions are great, the decision to be cautious about the personal information of countless users stored on iCloud has not been accepted by many. Some technology enthusiasts have opposed Apple’s NeuralHash technology. In such a situation, WhatsApp is going to come up with features like an end-to-end encrypted backup. WhatsApp has also stated that it does not fully agree with all of Apple’s recent policies. Officials at popular messaging platforms have repeatedly said that they are responsible for protecting the personal information of many application users.

User chats and media stored on Google Drive and iCloud will be completely protected if the end-to-end encrypted backup feature is available for both Android and iOS platforms. They can create a password or 64-digit encryption key to access or recover data. If the password or encryption key is lost, the user will not be able to retrieve the information.
